Which apps does Earwig support for creating subtitles for the audio?
All apps on your device. Earwig listens to the audio that is generated from any app on your device, and translates that.
Why does Earwig ask for screen capture permissions?
The way Earwig listens to audio from your device is to capture it from screen capture. Audio is the only thing processed by the capture, your screen data is not captured.
Does my audio get sent to the internet for processing?
No, processing occurs on your device.
What functionality does the trial version have?
The trial version has all the functionality of the pro app except you will only get 60seconds of translation.
What languages does Earwig support?
Arabic, German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Chinese.
I have the trial, how to I upgrade?
Go to 'Settings' and you will see instructions there.
What if I don't want to translate I just want original language?
Just select the language you want the subtitles, it doesn't need to be a translated language.
I want the English Subtitles and french to be displayed, can this be done?
Yes, just go to the "New" menu bar item and select "Subtitles Window" to open up a new window, then select the language you want to translate to.
On iOS, the EarwigTranslater is not showing in the Screen Recording dropdown
iOS can take a while to register the broadcaster. Reboot your device and wait a few seconds for it to appear.
On iOS, audio pauses on YouTube and other apps whilst Earwig is open
Audio from other apps may pause when Earwig microphone is on. In this case switch Earwig from using the microphone to using System Audio. Do this by pressing the microphone icon in the bottom left of the view and selecting System Audio.
Is there a limit to the number of subtitle windows I have have open at the same time?
In theory, no. However, the more you have open the more CPU power you will need. At some point it will slow down depending on your device specifications.
