Everything you need to know about Autoprompt — Scrolls at the pace of your voice. Can't find your answer? The team is one email away.

What is Autoprompt?
Autoprompt is a professional teleprompter app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It lets you scroll your script smoothly while you present, record, or broadcast, so you can deliver your words confidently without memorising them.
What platforms does Autoprompt run on?
Autoprompt runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. A single purchase covers all your Apple devices.
How do I control the scrolling speed?
Use the speed slider in the control bar to increase or decrease the scroll speed in real time. You can also use the on-screen buttons to pause, play, and reset the scroll position at any time.
What scroll modes are available?
Autoprompt offers automatic scrolling at a fixed speed, and speech-recognition-driven scrolling that advances the script in sync with your voice. You can switch between modes from the settings or the control bar.
How does speech-recognition scrolling work?
When speech recognition is enabled, Autoprompt listens to what you say and automatically advances the script to match your position. This means the text follows your natural pace rather than a fixed speed, so you never lose your place.
Does my audio or script get sent to the internet?
No. Speech recognition processing runs entirely on your device. Your scripts and audio are never uploaded to any server.
What is the Speaker Name feature?
Speaker Name lets you tag words or phrases in your script as a speaker label. Tagged text is displayed with custom foreground and background colours so you can instantly see who is speaking. Speaker names are excluded from any recorded video subtitles, so they appear only as a visual cue for the presenter.
How do I add a Speaker Name?
Speaker Name fields are fields that get ignored by the speech recognition. Select the word or phrase you want to tag, then right-click (Mac) or long-press (iPhone/iPad) and choose "Make Speaker Name" or "Add Speaker Name". A colour picker will appear where you can set the text and background colours and choose an emoji icon. On Mac the shortcut is Command + Shift + N.
What are Notes?
Notes let you embed reminders or stage directions directly in your script — for example "pause here" or "cut to camera 2". Noted text is shown in a distinct colour and is excluded from recorded video subtitles, so your audience never sees it.
How do I add a Note?
Note fields are fields that get ignored by the speech recognition. Select the text you want to turn into a note, or position your cursor where you want to insert one, then right-click (Mac) or long-press (iPhone/iPad) and choose "Make Note" or "Add Note". You can customise the note's colours and emoji icon in the picker that appears.
Will Speaker Names and Notes appear in my recorded video subtitles?
No. Any text marked as a Speaker Name or Note is automatically stripped from the subtitles that are embedded in your recorded video. Only the regular script text appears in the subtitles.
Can I record video with subtitles burned in?
Yes. Autoprompt can record from the device camera while simultaneously tracking your position in the script and embedding the current sentence as subtitles in the video file.
Can I use an external display or mirror mode?
Yes. Autoprompt supports mirrored and dual-display layouts so you can show the script on an external screen or teleprompter glass while keeping the control interface on your primary device.
Can I use a remote clicker or Bluetooth keyboard to control scrolling?
Yes. Autoprompt responds to keyboard shortcuts and Bluetooth remote controls, letting you start, stop, and adjust the scroll speed without touching the screen.
How do I change the font size and appearance of the script?
Open the script settings to adjust the font size, font style, text colour, background colour, line spacing, and text alignment. Changes take effect immediately so you can preview them in real time.
What is "Fix colors on paste"?
When you paste text from another app it may bring along unwanted colours or formatting. "Fix colors on paste" normalises the pasted text to match your current script style, keeping the appearance consistent throughout your document.
What languages is the Autoprompt interface available in?
The app interface is available in English, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish.
Can I import scripts from other apps?
Yes. You can paste text from any source, or import documents directly. Use "Fix colors on paste" after pasting to ensure the formatting matches your script style.
Where are my scripts stored?
Scripts are stored locally on your device. You can back them up and sync them across your Apple devices using iCloud if you have iCloud Drive enabled.
How do I open the AI Assistant?
Edit a script, then tap the wand icon. It requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device and is not available in DualScroll.
What file formats can I import?
.txt, .pdf, and .rtf are supported. Convert Word or Pages files to .txt or .rtf first.
Why are there multiple PDF import options?
PDFs can store text in different ways, so different filters help extract the script text when the default option does not work.
How do I make a script scroll for a fixed duration, like 60 seconds?
Choose Timer mode, set the duration, then press play or record. The script scrolls from top to bottom in that time.
How can I get more space for text on iPhone in landscape mode?
Hide the top and bottom menu bars in the app settings.
How do I loop a script?
Long-press play on iOS or right-click play on macOS, then choose loop. The same works with recording.
How do I control scroll speed?
Select Speed mode, then adjust the speed slider before starting playback or recording.
How do I play several scripts automatically in sequence?
Use the queue feature from the script list. Add scripts or folders, order them, then start the queue.
Can I manually scroll?
Yes. You can manually adjust while auto-scrolling, or use Manual Paging mode with page up/down controls.
How do I flip or mirror the text?
Use the flip/mirror controls in the teleprompter view, options menu, or settings. On iOS, long-pressing the text also exposes these options.
How do I change font size?
Use either magnification, which preserves relative text sizing, or font scaling, which makes all text uniformly larger or smaller.
How do I change formatting such as colours and fonts?
Enter edit mode and open the formatting controls.
How do I record myself?
Enter Record mode, grant camera and microphone access, then press record to capture video and audio while the script scrolls.
How do I fix denied camera or microphone access?
Enable the app in your device's Camera and Microphone system settings, then restart the app if needed.
Can recording continue after the script finishes?
Yes. Set "Continue Recording" in settings, or add blank lines to the end of the script.
Why are captions not showing on iOS recordings?
Enable closed captions in iOS Settings under Accessibility → Subtitles & Captioning.
How do I delete a recording?
In recordings, long-press on iOS or right-click on macOS, then choose delete.
Why does recording stop before I finish speaking?
Recording stops when the script ends unless you configure extra recording time or add blank lines at the bottom.
How do script folders work?
When saving a script, enter a folder name. New folder names are created automatically, and the script is saved there.
How do I rename a script?
Long-press on iOS or right-click on macOS, then choose rename.
How do I delete a script?
Long-press or right-click the script tile, then choose delete.
How do I move a script to another folder?
Long-press or right-click the script tile, then choose move to folder.
How do I use the software remote?
Enable remote control in preferences on both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Can I control the script remotely?
Yes, either with the built-in software remote or with an external keyboard or controller.
How do I use a hardware remote?
Set the remote or controller to keyboard mode, then map its buttons in the Hardware Remote and Keyboard Mapping settings.
How do I use an iOS device with a teleprompter rig?
Place the device on the rig, flip the text, and control scrolling on-device or from another device as a remote.
How do I scroll over video conferencing software?
On macOS, make the script window transparent and position it over the conferencing app window.
How do I scroll on a secondary monitor or teleprompter rig?
On macOS, either mirror the whole screen or create a duplicate script window and move it to the external display.
How do I mirror or flip the whole screen to another monitor?
On macOS, use the ScreenMirror menu to choose the source and destination displays, then flip the mirrored output if needed.
